    What Readers Are Saying

I read the most recent issue (Issue Two) from cover to cover in one sitting and was overwhelmed by the quality of the writing I encountered. There was an honesty to every word that is often absent in ‘grown-up’ writing, and a lack of conceitedness that felt refreshing. The poetry was simple and touching – and there were some insightful points in Sylvie Brubaker’s accompanying essay: ‘What Editors Look for in a Poem’. I very much enjoyed Silvia Anita Visoiu’s prose piece, ‘Brushstrokes’, and found it had quite a bite to it (refusing to offer the mother a share of the profits wasn’t expected (I thought she’d rise above the childhood snub) but it was the right choice for the piece); but the two short stories: Jaehyeong Park’s ‘Beyond the Finish Wall’ and Eva Fathima Basheer’s ‘The Girl, The Book and The Broken Heart’, I found to be a cut above. Both were so well considered, and masterfully executed, and I shed a tear during both. To be so young and to capture the universality of human experience – as they both do – in such a pure way, shows exemplary skill. Both authors clearly have an exciting path ahead of them, providing they choose to continue on their writing journeys. I wish the magazine too all the luck in the world, and hope more young writers, just testing out their voices, can find a stepping stone to even greater success within the wonderful pages of The Blue Bell Review.

We love that The Blue Bell Review gave our daughter a safe way to share her creative voice. As we all know, parental validation can carry less weight with teens and this meant a great deal to her.

The Blue Bell Review is an amazing magazine, and I’ve loved watching it develop from an idea to what it is today. I love how it features young people from across the world, and keeps itself at no submission fees while providing a quality platform for publication. I’m sure it’s encouraged many people already, and I hope that it will keep on growing and developing. Cheers to Elaine Elizabeth Jinto and the Editorial Board :)

The Blue Bell Review has given me the opportunity to publish my artwork and gain exposure. I was pleased that my painting was used as the prompt for the Young Writers Ekphrastic Contest. I loved reading the piece inspired by my painting. The diverse contributions made me realise how each person's creative style is different.
